Make it Elemental

I woke up late and in a rush, I better get to those showers in time to get ready for my meeting. Being a college girl is not easy, especially in this school, there are just too many things to do and such little time. Once I finally made it to the common showers, I quickly undressed to hop on the water. To my fortune, they were all taken.

– “Fuck,” I said while thinking now I’d have to go to the showers in the community building.

Common showers are horrible on their own, but the showers in the community building, right next to the cafeteria, have to be a new level of invasion of privacy. Or lack of privacy, should I say? Looking at the time on my digital watch, I knew I had to keep running.

-“Get to those showers,” I thought to myself  “We’ll have to figure it out later.”

Wrapping the towel around myself to cover my exposed body and collecting all of my bathroom “items” and “tools,” I ran across campus, passing through the other residential buildings, volleyball, and tennis fields, to the back end of the community building, in hopes the rear showers were available.

– “These ones too?! UGH,” I screamed to no one in particular when I realized these showers were also all busy.

My desperation was at its highest level. This had got to be the worst day of my life. One more time, I summoned all the courage and dignity I had left to walk inside the community building, walk across the cafeteria entrance, and through all the students eating to finally get to an available shower. Seriously, this school needs to do something about those goddamn showers!

The day and weather outside were great. It was sunny but not too hot, there was a breeze but not too cold or strong, and it smelled like fresh-cut grass. It was the perfect contrast to my shame and misery. However, as I walked across the cafeteria, I noticed through the window walls how a massive cloud approached, or so I thought, the day didn’t seem so bright anymore. I saw how everyone outside stood still looking at the sky. It was 9.30 in the morning, and the sky turned pitch black speedily; even the students inside the building turned to look outside.

Soon after, the first big “CRASH” sounded; that was the one thing missing for a big commotion to break inside and outside the building. The screams inside were overpowering, and at this point, I thought, “To hell with this meeting; it looks like we have bigger problems now.”

As I quickly ran to the bathroom to get dressed in my dirty clothes and panty, I heard how a second crash, followed by increased crashes, one right after the other, until there were multiple crashes at the same time around campus. I started to panic, trembling while trying to pull my pants up.

– “Are we under attack?” I thought, “By who?”
